Building green

The “U-Haul Building Green Initiative” begins with identifying what is to be built by implementing design strategies that are both kind to the environment and toward the immediate community in which we serve. This U-Haul inititiative is based on the same principles from the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED Green Building Rating System as our guideline.

The majority of our locations currently employ these principles:

  • Reduce – Water consumption with low-flow aerators and other plumbing sources
  • Reduce – Water consumption with efficient irrigation systems and planting various native species which require low water resources
  • Reduce – Energy consumption with EnergyStar efficient electrical and heating/cooling systems, etc.
  • Reuse – Reclaimed rainwater with permeable ground cover parking lots
  • Reuse – Reclaimed building materials in products purchased by 2nd and 3rd party manufacturers, etc.
  • Reuse – Solar energy by incorporating Passive-Solar building designs allowing for optimal daylighting benefits, etc.
  • Recycle – Multiple building and operational materials such as steel, aluminum, wood, paper, glass, plastics, etc.
  • Recycle – Environmentally friendly cleaning products and finishes promote healthy indoor air quality.

U-Haul remains committed to providing accessible and environmentally friendly services and locations. In our efforts to reduce additional Green House Gasses (GHG), we are conveniently locating rental centers near public transportation sites.

By utilizing these and other methods of sustainability, U-Haul believes the investment into the future, ensures an elevated standard of living for all our company as well as future generations.
